You’ve heard it before: PLAN AHEAD to stay ahead. I completely agree! This saying applies in many aspects of everyday life but it is especially important to me when keeping in track with my fat loss journey. I’m going to explain exactly how I need to be organised and plan ahead each week in order to ensure I am heading in the right direction.
There have been many times where I would come home in time for dinner and realize nothing was prepared. At that point, it’s easy to get takeaway or make something out of the cupboard which isn’t satisfactory. Wouldn’t it be much easier if the meal was there ready for you? Or, in my case, the ingredients are readily available and need 15-20min of cooking?
The trick to being organised is writing things down and planning ahead. The first thing I do, is my meal plan; Here is how i break it down:
As you can see, I know what I will be eating everyday and so I know which ingredients I need. I write another list as to what groceries I will be buying. Once everything is written down, I don’t tend to deviate from the list.
I go shopping every Sunday and I cook as much as I need- for example I make my partner a chilli con carne in a big pot which he divides into containers and has it for lunch for the whole week. I also marinate half of the chicken and freeze the other half. I cook up a big pot of cauliflower and make a mash which i put in a container and have for the rest of the week. Everything else, I cook on the day- so, the chicken I fry it up an hour before I need to head out for the day; I make the pancakes in the morning and pack them up, ready for morning tea time. For dinner I bake the salmon and boil the broccoli. I always check the fridge and make sure I have everything available for the next day.
The most important thing is to write things down and make sure your supplies are stocked so you never run out in the middle of the week- it’s very frustrating, trust me.
Hope this short snippet of my Sunday organisation will give you some ideas in regards to sorting out your meals throughout the week.
Happy New Year and looking forward to many more posts to come.
All the best,
